AI for people who don't code (and never will).
Five prompts that replace a Saturday of admin — meal plans, refund emails, tax notes, and a resume rewrite in ten minutes.
You do not need to understand AI to use it. You need five short prompts, a free account, and ten minutes. That is it. This post is the exact playbook I give my mum, my plumber, and my sister-in-law who runs a bakery.
1. The 'plan my week' prompt
Open ChatGPT (or any free chatbot). Paste: 'I have $80 for groceries this week, two kids under ten, and no time on Wednesday. Give me a five-dinner plan with a single shopping list, grouped by supermarket aisle.' You will get back a plan you can actually follow. Change the numbers to fit your life.
2. The 'write the awkward email' prompt
Refunds, late invoices, cancelling a subscription — anything you keep putting off. Paste the facts and end with: 'Write this as a polite but firm email, under 120 words.' Read it, tweak one line so it sounds like you, hit send.
3. The 'explain it like I'm twelve' prompt
Every tax letter, insurance form, or doctor's note becomes easy when you paste it and add: 'Explain this to me like I'm twelve, then tell me what to do next in three steps.' This one alone will save you hours a year.
4. The 'rewrite my resume' prompt
Paste your current resume, then the job description you want, then: 'Rewrite my resume to match this job. Keep it honest. Highlight the three strongest matches at the top.' Print, apply, done.
5. The 'be my brainstorm buddy' prompt
'I have a birthday for a nine-year-old who loves dinosaurs and hates sitting still. Give me ten party ideas under $100.' Any decision you are stuck on works here. AI is a genuinely great friend at parties you did not want to host.
"You are not learning AI. You are learning to ask better questions — the machine just answers faster than Google."
Try one prompt today. That is the whole homework. Ten minutes, one prompt, one thing off your list.

Forget deleting apps. One grayscale switch and a bedroom charger got me 90 minutes back a day. Here's the exact setup.
